As Franklin & Marshall (F&M) works toward priorities identified in its Master Plan, the college relies on ARAMARK for Capital Program Management (CPM) services. ARAMARK has established an ongoing relationship with F&M, working closely with college staff to properly manage the capital construction projects that will enhance academic, administrative, residential and athletic facilities at the Lancaster, Pennsylvania campus.
More than $121 million since 1999
For nearly a decade, the ARAMARK staff has worked on both high-level strategic planning and on-the-ground management of capital construction projects at F&M. ARAMARK staff has played a key role in updating the campus Master Plan, the Utility Master Plan and has been involved in the capital planning and budgeting process.
Onsite team members draw from experience available from the larger ARAMARK organization to provide guidance at every step of capital projects. The team makes recommendations on how to prioritize and deliver specific projects based on knowledge of best practices and an understanding of the college’s strategic goals. ARAMARK serves as a single point of contact for the college, guiding feasibility studies and design, securing permits from local authorities and representing the college’s interests to the contracting community.
A dedicated ARAMARK team has provided CPM for more than 60 campus projects since 1999, including a musical arts building; new bookstore and café in an historical gymnasium space; performing arts building; residence hall life safety upgrades; admissions house renovations; writers house; art gallery; synthetic turf field; tennis complex, and squash courts; an international center; a center for Jewish life; College House master plan and three completed commons projects; relocation of facilities and operations shops, warehouse, and offices; administrative and academic offices, classrooms and laboratories, and other renovations and expansions. For many projects, ARAMARK is involved at the beginning, from leading the programming effort and design team selection to establishing and tracking budgets and schedules and coordinating all aspects of construction, closeout, occupancy and relocation.
The team provided CPM services for the award-winning Barshinger Life Sciences and Philosophy Building, designed to promote cross-disciplinary teaching, learning and research. Toward that end, the CPM team took the lead on the 108,000 square foot $48.7 million project, with ARAMARK managing all consultants, obtaining permits from local code officials, bidding and negotiating construction management contracts, and soliciting and coordinating interior design and furnishings, lab equipment and relocation services. The project was completed on budget and on time ready for use for fall semester 2007
