Council Rock School District

Energy Management

This southeastern Pennsylvania school district initiated an energy efficiency program in November 2005. Energy managers and engineers from ARAMARK worked with school officials to better evaluate and understand how energy systems operate, which reduced annual consumption by 40%. The program earned the district the ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year award in 2008.

The District achieved energy savings of more than $2.5 million in 2 years.

Overview:

Demand side energy management for school district serving more than 12,000 students in 17 facilities, totaling 1.8 million square feet of space.

ARAMARK’s team implemented a comprehensive energy reduction program that included many operational improvements, staff training, control system enhancements, and repairs to HVAC equipment field controls. ARAMARK developed a model energy program for the district, which yielded savings that helped address budget shortfalls while preventing tax increases and educational program cuts.

Highlights:

ARAMARK energy experts worked with the district to focus attention on re-commissioning newer buildings and requiring ENERGY STAR qualified products, when possible, for new purchases. School officials created a 10-year facility master plan for building renovations, making energy efficiency a high priority.

The district became an ENERGY STAR partner in 2006 and used EPA tools and resources to help set new goals after surpassing initial milestones. Within 18 months, the district had improved energy savings by 20%, and within two years it had accomplished a 40% improvement in energy efficiency across its portfolio of school buildings. These achievements earned the district recognition as an ENERGY STAR Leader.
